Cambodian PM Receives Different Delegations of International Election Observers

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held here this morning separate talks with five delegations of international observers for the 6th National Election in Cambodia on July 29.

Those are the delegations from China led by H.E. Ding Wenchao, a Director General of the Communist Party of China ; from Indonesia led by H.E. Agung Laksono, Vice President of the Centrist Asia Pacific Democrats International (CAPDI); from the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) led by its Founding Chairman H.E. Jose De Venecia, former Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines; from the Centrist Democrat International (CDI) led by its President H.E. Andres Pastrana; from the Russian State Duma led by H.E. Alexey Vasilievich, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Besides, the Cambodian Premier also received courtesy call from a group of some 200 international observers from China, India, Indonesia, Russia, etc.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his warm welcome to all the foreign observers, stressing that what Cambodia needs is an impartial observation and report on the real situation around tomorrow's general elections.

The Prime Minister said Cambodia has regularly held the National Election every five years in the fourth week of July in accordance with the Constitution.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also told them of the smooth and non-violent election campaign of 21 days, from July 7 to 27, which reflected the progress of democracy in Cambodia.

Cambodia is not under any colonial rule, Cambodia is an independent and sovereign state, and the parliamentary election has to be conducted in accordance with the constitution and in response to the Cambodian people's will, he underlined.

For their part, the Indian delegation echoed the ICAPP delegation's comments over the election campaign process which was concluded yesterday smoothly and successfully, while the CAPDI and U.S. delegations congratulated Cambodia on its peace, stability and rapid development.
