Cambodian PM Meets Lao President

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen paid a courtesy call on Lao President H.E. Bounnhang Vorachith in Vientiane yesterday afternoon, as part of his two-day official visit in Laos, from Dec. 5 to 6, 2018.

According to H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, in the courtesy meeting, H.E. Bounnhang Vorachith congratulated the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) for its landslide victory and Samdech Techo Hun Sen for his reelection as Prime Minister. He also welcomed the existing good cooperation between both nations.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen conveyed greetings from His Majesty the King of Cambodia to H.E. Bounnhang Vorachith, and thanked him for his congratulatory message on the victory of CPP.

The Cambodian Prime Minister underlined that his official visit to Laos this time showed that Cambodia has prioritised Laos as a neighbouring nation. He briefed the Lao leader on the outcomes of his official talks with his Lao counterpart, especially on electricity purchase, bridge construction across Tonle Ropov connecting Preah Vihear province of Cambodia to Champasak province of Laos, education, culture, tourism, fight against cross-border crimes and drugs, etc.

On the border issue, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that both governments have agreed to settle the remaining problems soon. Moreover, he informed H.E. Bounnhang Vorachith of his strategy to transform the border area into an area of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

On behalf of His Majesty the King, Samdech Techo Hun Sen invited H.E. Bounnhang Vorachith to pay a visit to Cambodia.

On the same day, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also met with H.E. Ms. Pany Yathotou, President of the National Assembly of Lao PDR.
