Cambodian PM Asks U.S Ambassador to Explain about U.S. Aid Cutoff to GDT

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, asked this morning the U.S. ambassador to Cambodia to explain about the U.S.' announcement to cut off its aid to the General Department of Taxation (GDT) of the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance.

What is behind this announcement? Actually, the U.S. assistance to the GDT ended since 2016, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said at a get-together with more than 20,000 workers and employees in Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone in Preah Sihanouk province.

On Feb. 27, 2018, the White House Presse Secretary issued a statement on reduction in assistance to the Government of Cambodia.

The statement stated that the U.S. Government will suspend or curtail several Treasury, USAID, and American military assistance programmes intended to support the General Department of Taxation, the capacity of local government authorities, and the Cambodian military, each of which has been linked to some setbacks.
