Cambodian Foreign Minister to Virtually Attend the Opening Session of High-Level Policy Dialogue

H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation will virtually attend the Opening Session of the High-Level Policy Dialogue on “ASEM at 25: Strengthening Asia-Europe Partnership in a Transforming World,” to be held on June 22 in a hybrid format in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.

The participation is made at the invitation of H.E. Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, pointed out a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made public this morning.

According to the source, the Cambodian top diplomat will also be one of the Keynote Speakers at this High-Level Dialogue along with H.E. Bui Thanh Son, H.E. Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, H.E. Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, and H.E. Sergey V. Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn’s speech will mainly focus on ASEM process since its inception in 1996, its role as one of the cornerstones of global governance, revitalisation of multilateralism to tackle global challenges, such as the COVID-19 and its socio-economic impacts. To this end, the ASEM13 theme that Cambodia has proposed – “Strengthening Multilateralism for Shared Growth” – is more relevant than ever. H.E. Prak Sokhonn will also share his vision for ASEM in the coming years, especially its multi-layered cooperation for peace and development in Asia and Europe.

This High-Level Dialogue, in commemorating the 25th Anniversary of ASEM, will provide an opportunity for all ASEM Partners and stakeholders to (1) reflect on ASEM’s past achievements; (2) assess new and emerging trends that may impact ASEM’s roles; (3) identify ASEM’s main areas of cooperation; and (4) further advance Asia-Europe partnership in the today’s changing world.
