Cambodian Foreign Minister Departs for the 52nd AMM in Bangkok

Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation left here this morning to attend the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings taking place from July 30 to Aug. 3 in Bangkok, Thailand.

These important meetings are the key opportunities for ASEAN Foreign Ministers and their counterparts from ASEAN Dialogue Partners and other Developing Partners to review and evaluate the relations on field of cooperation with the view to maintain ASEAN Centrality vis-a-vis the evolving geopolitical happening in the world.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA-IC), H.E. Prak Sokhonn, together with other ASEAN Foreign Ministers, will pay a courtesy call on H.E. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Under the theme Advancing Partnership for Sustainability, the 52nd AMM and Related Meetings will focus on enhancing cooperation to further advancing the ASEAN Community building process and strengthening the ASEAN-centred regional architecture as well as broadening partnerships with ASEAN's Dialogue Partners and external parties.

H.E. Deputy Prime Minister is expected to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting Interface with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR); Meeting of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission; 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (52nd AMM); ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences (PMCs) with all ten Dialogue Partners of ASEAN; 20th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting (20th APT FMM); 9th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting (9th EAS FMM); and 26th ASEAN Regional Forum (26th ARF).

As Country Coordinator for the ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue Relations from 2018 to 2021, H.E. Prak Sokhonn will co-chair with The Rt. Hon. Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, the Post Ministerial Conference+1 Session with New Zealand.

On the margins of the 52nd AMM, H.E. Prak Sokhonn will witness, with other ASEAN Foreign Ministers, the signing ceremony of the Instruments of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) by the Republic of Peru and the Republic of South Africa. He will also attend the launching ceremonies of the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship and the ASEAN-Australia Counter-Trafficking (ASEAN-ACT) Initiative.

Furthermore, on the sidelines of the 52nd AMM, H.E. Prak Sokhonn will attend the 12th Lower Mekong Initiative Ministerial Meeting; 10th Mekong-Ganga Cooperation Ministerial Meeting; 9th Mekong-ROK Foreign Ministers' Meeting; and 12th Mekong-Japan Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

During his stay in Bangkok, H.E. Prak Sokhonn will also hold separate bilateral meetings with The Rt. Hon. Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand; H.E. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China; H.E. Kono Taro, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan; H.E. Mrs. Ine Marie Eriksen SA�reide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, as well as other heads of delegations.
