A delegation led by H.E. Kun Nhim, Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, has attended 28th meeting of ASEAN Customs Directors-General in Laos.
Taking place from June 11 to 13 in Vientiane, the meeting was chaired by H.E. Bounpaseuth Sikounlabout, Acting Director General of Lao Customs Department under the presidency of H.E. Ms. Thiphakone Chanthavongsa, Lao Deputy Minister of Finance.
Addressing the gathering, H.E. Ms. Thiphakone Chanthavongsa noted that the establishment of ASEAN economic community is making ASEAN member states a unified trade centre.
The meeting, she continued, is a platform to examine progress in implementing initiatives responsible by ASEAN customs authority in order to increase transparency and promote trade facilitation among the ASEAN countries.
The meeting achieved key areas such as enforcement and speeding up of joint protocols; particularly related to cross-border transportation; establishment of sub-group to a support study, and cooperation in the development of customs and tax list and strategy for 2022.
Representing Cambodian side, H.E. Kun Nhim shared with the meeting initiatives of Cambodia in response to challenges such as illegal drug and wild animal smuggling, limiation of plastic waste and anti-terrorism.
On the sidelines of the event, H.E. Kun Nhim held meetings with his counterparts from Japan, Australia, China, and Korea as well as representatives of World Customs Oragnisation and private sector including ASEAN-EU Business Council and ASEAN-US Business Council.
