Phnom Penh (dpa) – A team of Cambodian chefs was Monday attempting to make the world’s biggest sticky rice cake, on the occasion of Khmer new year, a news report said.
A Guiness Book of Records judge travelled to the northern province of to Siem Reap to determine whether the 3.2-ton cake prepared by around 100 chefs was a world record, the Phnom Penh Post newspaper reported.
The attempt is a part of Siem Reap city’s annual new year celebrations of Angkor Sangkranta, which includes traditional dances, Khmer games and music performances.
“We hope we can break the record,” Som Ratana, the city’s spokesman for the event, told the Post.
“People all over the world do not know much about Cambodia, they only know about our dark history, such as the Khmer Rouge regime,” he was quoted as saying.
“If we can break this world record, people around the world will know more about Cambodia and its good culture.”
