Four out of six Cambodian students have been awarded with nine medals � a gold, a silver and 7 bronze medals � from the ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APT JSO) 2018 in Malaysia.
Altogether, 57 students from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Vietnam participated in this regional competition, the 7th of its kind, held in Kuala Lumpur from July 29 to Aug. 4 under the theme Science & Innovation for Good Health and Social Well Being.
Beside the medals, Cambodian students also won a special cup for being the friendliest in ASEAN and Miss of APT JSO 2018.
Eang Huy Kheang, a male student from Preah Monivong High School in Battambang province, said he got the gold medal after inventing a new mosquito repellent tool which is low cost and contribute to reducing malaria infection.
The other three, Ley Layan, male, from Dewey International School in Battambang province obtained a bronze medal while Srun Ratha, male, from Hun Sen Muoymithona High School in Takeo won three bronze medals and Pich Puth Srey Neath, female, from Preah Bath Soramarith High School in Kampong Chhnang province received two bronze medals.
According to its online source, APT JSO is an annual science camp for students between 13 and 15 years old. It is designed to develop talents of young individuals and nurture them to become future scientists and innovators. It also aims to foster cross-cultural exchange, friendship and networking between participants of the ASEAN Plus Three member countries.
