Cambodia's fruit investor Longmate Agriculture is planning to export some 30,000 tons of Cavendish banana to China next year.
The update has been shared by the company's board director Oknha Phe Hok Chhuon, adding that the fruit will be harvested by the end of this year.
By January next year, the packaging of the yellow banana will be ready for export, he continued.
With high demand at international markets, investment in Cavendish banana is a lucrative business in Cambodia expected to contribute positively to promoting jobs for locals and economic growth.
Longmate Agriculture is a joint venture between Cambodian and Chinese investors with a total investment capital of US$32 million.
The firm is growing the yellow banana on more than 1,000 hectares of land surface in Chhuok district of Kampot province and will expand the business in a near future.
