The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has announced a nationwide campaign to strengthen the measures for combating and preventing the COVID-19 spread, as Cambodia is facing the arrival of 3rd wave of large transmission caused by Delta variant.

According to the RGC's directive signed by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and made public tonight, the campaign will last two weeks, from July 29 to Aug. 12.

The measures rang from the suspension of high-risk occupational and business activities such as KTVs, nightclubs, beer gardens, resorts, amusement parks, alcoholic beverage outlets, cinemas, theatres, museums, sports clubs, and fitness centres, to the ban of private gatherings of over 10 people, but with some exceptions, and of dining-in at eateries.

A curfew from 9:00 pm to 3:00 am must be imposed wholly or partly, especially for Phnom Penh capital and provincial towns, but with some exceptions.

The identification of affected areas into Red, Dark Yellow and Yellow zones, is also part of the measures to be taken by the provincial and municipal authorities.

Preventing or cutting off Delta transmission in community is the major priority and highest responsibility of each province and capital, especially the bordering provinces, therefore the measures taken must be strict and immediate.

Ministries and public institutions, private sector as well as private individuals are encouraged to use rapid antigen test kits during this 14-day campaign so as to contribute with the Royal Government in combating and preventing the COVID-19 spread.

As of this morning, Cambodia's COVID-19 tally rose to 75,152, of which 9,721 were imported. Delta variant has been so far detected on more than 100 people in Cambodia, most of them are Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand.
