Cambodia, RoK Laud Growing Bilateral Relationship

Cambodia and the Republic of Korea have recalled the process of establishment of their diplomatic ties and were satisfied with their growing bilateral relations.

The satisfaction was underlined by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and newly appointed RoK Ambassador H.E. Park Jung-Wook, during their meeting here at the Peace Palace this afternoon, according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier.

The two-way trade reached US$1 billion last year and RoK is the second largest investor in Cambodia. Thanks to the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement, the Agreement on Double Taxation and Cambodia’s new Investment Law, the bilateral trade volume is expected to further rise and more Korean investors will come to the Kingdom.

H.E. Park Jung-Wook recalled RoK’s assistance to the development of Cambodia, particularly to the construction of Cambodian physical infrastructure.

Besides, the new diplomat expressed RoK’s concern over the missile launches by North Korea, which is a threat to peace in the Korea Peninsula as well as in the world.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen noted that RoK has never changed its attitude toward Cambodia in all circumstances, for example during the COVID-19 outbreak, the Korean government continued its support for Cambodia and never cancelled flights to the Kingdom.

The Premier also thanked the RoK government for accepting Cambodian workers and funding the construction of bridges crossing the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister reiterated Cambodia’s stance to condemn the North Korea for repeatedly launching missiles, which violates the UN Security Council resolutions, escalates tensions and threatens security and peace on both the Korean Peninsula and the world.
