Cambodia has asked French Republic to provide technical capacity building on handling with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), according to local media report.
The request was made by H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny, Director General of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine and Explosive Remnants of War Clearance (NPMEC) during the meeting with two French military professors here in Phnom Penh yesterday.
The training provision, according to the source, focused mainly on Cambodian forces with UN peacekeeping assignment.
As underlined by H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny, the technical skill is crucial for Cambodian blue helmet troops to remove improvised explosive device, to prevent themselves from it as well as to raise awareness of its risks when fulfilling their UN peacekeeping operations.
