Cambodia Receives Almost 50,000 Tourists during King’s Birthday Holiday

During His Majesty the King’s Birthday holiday and the second weekend of May, from May 14 to 16, some 49,930 domestic visitors toured the country, according to H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism.
Of them, he pointed out, 49,364 were national tourists, and 566 were foreign visitors.
According to H.E. Minister, the most visited tourism destinations were Kampot province, followed by Battambang, Kampong Speu, Siem Reap, Kep, Kampong Cham, Preah Vihear, and Preah Sihanouk provinces.
Even though the number of internal tourists is still low compared to that before the Feb. 20 Community Event, it saw an increase of about 457 percent compared to the week before the lockdown of Phnom Penh capital and Takhmao town of Kandal province and 153.3 percent compared to the previous week, added H.E. Minister.
The Ministry of Tourism have so far advised the provincial and municipal tourism departments and tourism-related businesses as well as other relevant parties to strengthen the health preventive measures to ensure safety of the tourists and community.
