Cambodia has planned to increase number of skilled human resources in tourism to further upscale the industry growth in the country.
The intention was underlined recently by Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon, adding that his ministry has formulated a strategy for Cambodia's tourism human resource advancement to respond to the developing market.
By 2020, Cambodia needs to have at least 50 percent of skilled tourism staffs certified through education programmes and training that meet the set national as well as ASEAN standard, continued the minister.
According to the ministry's figure, Cambodia has now some 620,000 staffs working in tourism industry, and 40 percent of them were trained and certified.
By 2025, the Kingdom sets to increase tourism staff to 1.2 million and by 2030 the number will expectedly increase to 1.5 million and they all will be well certified, H.E. Thong Khon said.
Cambodia received 6.2 million foreign tourists in 2018 � suggesting an increase of about 11 percent � and two million of them were Chinese visitors.
