Cambodia officially became the host of the 27th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), the highest APPF's decision-making body, in Siem Reap province in January 2019.
Cambodian National Assembly (NA) President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin received the official APPF banner from visiting H.E. Ms. Tong Thi Phong, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of Vietnamese NA, at the Handover Ceremony of Hosting Authority from Vietnam to Cambodia organised here yesterday afternoon, following the bilateral meeting between the two legislative leaders.
On the occasion, Samdech Heng Samrin spoke highly of subsequent successes of Vietnam in hosting many major international forums both in the regional and international framework, especially the 26th APPF Annual Meeting.
This is the first time for Cambodia to host such APPF meeting, said the Cambodian NA President, hoping that the Vietnamese NA will share its experience with Cambodia to host the event successfully.
For her part, H.E. Ms. Tong Thi Phong recalled the Vietnamese NA's efforts during the one-year APPF presidency period and affirmed its readiness to cooperate with Cambodia for the success of the 27th APPF Annual Meeting.
The APPF was founded in 1993 to strengthen cooperation between member parliaments with an aim to ensure peace and stability, and to promote trade, investment, education, cultural exchange, environmental protection, anti-cross-border crimes and anti-terrorism, in the Asia-Pacific region. APPF has currently 27 member parliaments along with some observers. Cambodian NA became a full member of APPF in 1995.
