Cambodia, Maldives Mull Direct Flight Connection

Cambodia and Maldives are considering direct flight connection between the two countries to facilitate tourism movement in the near future.

The intention was shared in the meeting between Cambodian Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon and H.E. Mohamed Jinah, newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Cambodia at the ministry office on Tuesday.

During the meeting, H.E. Mohamed Jinah spoke highly of Cambodia’s effort in fighting against COVID-19, including the vaccination campaign, as well as the country’s important role as the chair of ASEAN this year.

H.E. Thong Khon thanked the Government of Maldives for sending tourism officials to participate in regional events and meetings that Cambodia hosted, especially in 2019.

Both sides also agreed to draft a memorandum of understanding on bilateral tourism cooperation and to sign the Air Service Agreement to pave way for greater tourism cooperation.

H.E. Thong Khon was also positive that the Government of Maldives will support Cambodia in organising a World Tourism Organisation meeting in Asia-Pacific and East Asia in 2023.
