Cambodia Lauds China’s Support for Agriculture and Infrastructure Development

The Royal Government of Cambodia has spoken highly of the contribution from the Chinese government to its development process, mainly in the areas of agriculture and infrastructure.

The appreciation was made by H.E. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Co-chair of the Cambodia-China Intergovernmental Coordination Committee in a working breakfast with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister H.E. Wang Yi in Phnom Penh this morning.

On the occasion, H.E. Hor Namhong expressed profound thanks to the Chinese government for importing milled rice, fresh bananas and mangoes from Cambodia.

This has greatly contributed to helping Cambodian farmers, particularly Cambodia’s economic growth in this COVID-19 crisis, said H.E. Hor Namhong, who asked China to buy more agricultural produce – longan, pepper, durian, and palm sugar, and so on.

H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong also briefed H.E. Wang Yi on the implementation of various projects after the Cambodia-China Intergovernmental Coordination Committee Meeting held in June 2020, and mentioned about main projects including the construction project of National Road (NR) 71C, the expansion and improvement projects of NR 41, NR33, NR31, and NR3, wastewater treatment project in Sihanoukville, and submarine optical cable project between Sihanoukville and Hong Kong.

For his part, H.E Wang Yi said China will push for the construction of NR71C and the submarine optical cable project, and dispatch an expert team to study the renovation of a portion of NR3.
