A Delegation of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) led by their Commander-in-chief H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen attended the 18th ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces’ Meeting (ACDFM-18), via videoconference on Mar. 18.
The meeting, themed “We Care, We Prepare, We Prosper” and hosted by Brunei as the ASEAN Chair in 2021, reflects the integration of military cooperation, highlighting the joint efforts of all ASEAN armies in combating various challenges and common threats in the region.
In his speech, H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen highly valued the meeting’s theme, saying that it is meaningful in the context when the region as well as the world are facing common security problems happening in both traditional and non-traditional forms, especially the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the COVID-19 vaccines being developed, H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen encouraged the ASEAN States to continue the joint efforts to address the pandemic by promoting vaccination among the people based on the humanitarian, equity and non-discrimination spirit.
H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen said the RCAF remains committed to contributing to all cooperation within the ASEAN framework and with the ASEAN dialogue partners, as well as enhancing regional cooperation, preparing to address threats to security and humanity, and to disaster relief, as well as participating in the prevention and crackdown of transnational crimes, cybercrimes with high effectiveness.
The ACDFM-18 ended with the adoption of a joint statement and the handover of ACDFM Chairmanship to Cambodia which will be the Chair of ASEAN in 2022.
H.E. Gen. Vong Pisen strongly believed that the ASEAN member countries, especially the ASEAN armies will continue to maintain their close ties and cooperation in order to maintain peace and development in the region in the spirit of solidarity, friendship and cooperation.
