Cambodia is hosting the 2nd Asian and Pacific Conference on Prison Health looking into promote learning and regional cooperation.
Taking place at Cambodiana Hotel here in Phnom Penh, the three-day gathering began on Nov. 14 with delegations from different countries in the region.
Cambodia's Interior Secretary of State H.E. Pao Ham Phan considered the event as means to share experience, technical knowledge and leadership as well as to promote governance and partnership in addressing prison health.
As underlined by Cambodia's Health Secretary of State H.E. Te Kuy Seang in the event, the Royal Government of Cambodia has included prison health as public health and been working hard to promote it.
Prisoners, he continued, are prone to both communicable and non-communicable diseases and without proper control, it can lead to a big problem.
The prison health conference was made possible by the International Committee of the Red Cross in cooperation with Cambodia as host country.
Policies and cooperation guidelines are expected to be discussed and agreed by the gathering.
