Cambodia is considering sending workers to the State of Kuwait for the first time next year, according to the Minister of Labour and Vocational Training.
H.E. Ith Samheng shared the intention yesterday afternoon with reporters after his meeting with visiting Kuwait's Minister of Social Affairs and Labour and Minister of State for Economic Affairs H.E. Ms. Hind Al-Sabeeh at his office here in Phnom Penh.
If the wage is high and working condition is acceptable for Cambodian workers, he added, more will be sent in the following years.
Workers selected to work in Kuwait will receive appropriate technical training as well as other necessary orientation to help them adapt to their work and living in the country.
Through the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the Royal Government of Cambodia is exploring possibilities to send interested Cambodians for overseas jobs.
By far, Cambodians are legally working in many countries including Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, and Japan.
According to the ministry's record, there are about 1.2 million Cambodian overseas workers who are making a total of nearly US$2 billion annually.
