Cambodia Considers Preparing a New Immigration Law

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said the Royal Government is considering elaborating a new immigration law to respond to the changing regionalisation and globalisation.

The Premier revealed the information here yesterday afternoon while presiding over the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Interior.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen lauded the outcomes of the efforts in managing immigrants in the country.

According to a report of the General Department of the Immigration, there are in total 46,776 immigrant families, or 176,812 people in Cambodia. Nearly half of the total families or 73,397 people have been holding irregular documents.

Besides, the Cambodian authorities also recorded 35,973 foreigners of 99 nationalities who have been living in Cambodia for a long period of time.
