Cambodia, China Agree to Boost “Diamond” Cooperation

Cambodia and China have appreciated and agreed to promote their “diamond” cooperation in order to elevate their relations to a new level.

The agreement was made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China during their talks at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing this morning, according to TVK’s special correspondent.

The two leaders also spoke highly of the progress in the bilateral relations between the two countries, from comprehensive cooperation to iron-clad friendship and to a “community with shared future” cooperation. They vowed to continue strengthening the spirit of building a community with shared future based on six key sectors – politics and diplomacy, production capacity and quality, agriculture, energy, security, people-to-people relations, as well as the improvement of Cambodian health sector.

They highly valued the entry into force of the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement on Jan. 1, 2022, opening more Chinese markets for Cambodian agricultural and fisheries products. H.E. Xi Jinping expressed his interest to the agriculture and aquaculture development around the Tonle Sap Great Lake, while Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the Chinese President’s initiative to establish a Fish and Rice Corridor in northwestern Cambodia, which will become the Kingdom’s 4th economic pole.

Besides, the two leaders agreed to boost the cooperation in diversifying energy sources focusing on green energy.

On the occasion, H.E. Xi Jinping announced a grant aid of 300 million Yuan to support Cambodia’s railway project.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen arrived in Beijing on Feb. 9 for a three-day official visit. He is the first world leader to visit China after the Chinese Lunar New Year in late January.

Cambodia and China mark this year the 65th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties.
