Cambodia Celebrates Earth Hour 2018

The Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) hosted here last Saturday the celebration of the Earth Hour 2018 under the theme Connecting with the Earth.

The celebration was presided over by H.E. Ms. Ngin Lina, Director General of the General Department of Environmental Knowledge and Information of the Ministry of Environment, and Country Director of WWF Cambodia Mr. Seng Teak.

According to a news release of the Ministry of Environment, some 2,000 people participated in this event, the third of its kind in Cambodia, held in front of the ministry's head office from 20:30 to 21:30.

Meanwhile, different big hotels, restaurants and companies as well as private households also took part in marking this annual event aiming to raise people's awareness on environment so as to boost more active participation in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation in Cambodia, it added.

An online source explains that Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organised annually to encourage individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on a specific day towards the end of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet.
