Cambodia Calls for More Cooperation between ASEAN and Russia

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen urged yesterday ASEAN and Russian leaders to boost more cooperation.

Addressing to the 3rd ASEAN-Russia Summit in Singapore attended by the ten ASEAN leaders and Russian President H.E. Vladimir Putin, Samdech Techo Hun highly appreciated the remarkable progress of ASEAN-Russia cooperation, after successfully organising the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit to Mark the 20th Anniversary of ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations.

The Cambodian Premier insisted both sides (ASEAN and Russia) to put more efforts to achieve the Comprehensive Plan of Action to Promote Cooperation between ASEAN and Russia 2016-2020 in order to boost deeper cooperation.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that regular meetings between ASEAN and Russia should be held to strengthen and deepen ASEAN-Russia cooperation. In this spirit, Cambodia supports Russia's proposal to upgrade ASEAN-Russia dialogue partners to a strategic dialogue partner.

The Comprehensive Plan of Action to Promote Cooperation between ASEAN and Russia 2016-2020 was approved by the ASEAN and Russian leaders in 2016.

This Comprehensive Plan of Action laid priorities and measures to be undertaken by both sides to further deepen and enhance their political-security, economic, socio-cultural and development cooperation as well as to realise the full potential of the ASEAN-Russia partnership in all areas of common interest, taking into account ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together and its Blueprints, as well as the results of the implementation of the Comprehensive Programme of Action to Promote Cooperation between ASEAN and Russia 2005-2015.
