Cambodia Asks World Bank to Further Support Cambodia’s Development

Cambodia has asked the World Bank (WB) to help mobilise more grant aid to support the country's projects promoting skills, education and health, particularly in the context of COVID-19.

The request was made by H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance during his recent meeting with outgoing World Bank Regional Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific Ms. Victoria Kwakwa through a videoconference.

The deputy prime minister proposed the WB to reconsider the loan conditions with high concession like other development partners and delay the implementation of new loan conditions to allow Cambodia to access financing for big infrastructure investment so as to restore the national economy after the COVID-19 crisis.

He underlined the Royal Government of Cambodia's effort in fighting against COVID-19 and the success of the nationwide vaccination campaign against the pandemic.

From her end, Ms. Victoria Kwakwa spoke highly of the government's effort in preventing and fighting against COVID-19, and the good cooperation between Cambodia and the WB during her mandate.

She accepted Cambodia's request and pledged to inform the management of the bank, especially the newly-appointed Regional Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific Ms. Manuela Ferro about the request.
