Brunei Appreciates Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 

Brunei Darussalam has congratulated Cambodia for her able chairmanship of ASEAN 2022.

The congratulations was extended by the Honorable Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam in a meeting with H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation here in Phnom Penh on Nov. 9, on the sidelines of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Phnom Penh.

The Honorable Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof took the opportunity to express his warm congratulations to the Deputy Prime Minister on the occasion of the 69th Independence Day of the Kingdom of Cambodia to which H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed his sincere appreciation.

He reiterated the importance of ASEAN Centrality in dealing with complex regional issues, including the crisis in Myanmar. Brunei has expressed full support to Cambodia as the Chair of ASEAN and H.E Prak Sokhonn as Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn thanked Brunei for her unwavering support for Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship. He emphasised that as the current Chair of ASEAN, Cambodia reiterated its commitment to continue supporting Myanmar, as a family member, through the implementation of the ASEAN 5PC.

Both sides focused their discussion on the preparation for the State Visit of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to Cambodia on Nov. 14 as both countries are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations. 

The Honorable Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof cordially invited H.E. Prak Sokhonn to pay an official visit to Brunei Darussalam at a mutually convenient date.
