Banteay Meanchey Province to Temporarily Close Border with Sa Kaeo Province of Thailand

Banteay Meanchey provincial authorities have announced the temporary closure of border with the Thai province of Sa Kaeo to ensure the effectiveness of management and prevention of COVID-19 spread, especially the Delta variant.

According to a letter of H.E. Oum Reatrey, Governor of Banteay Meanchey province, to his Sa Kaeo counterpart, the temporary closure will begin on July 29, at 23:59 and last until Aug. 12.

Under the measure, it pointed out, all border crossings of migrant workers, vendors and businesspersons will be restricted, except the transport of goods, medical emergencies, and other special cases authorised by the competent authorities.

The provincial authorities’ move was made after the Royal Government of Cambodia last night announced to conduct a two-week nationwide campaign against the COVID-19 spread, as Cambodia is facing the arrival of 3rd wave of large transmission caused by Delta variant.
