Australian Government has been supporting Cambodia’s physical rehabilitation centres (PRCs), which play a crucial role in providing physical rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities, including children.

According to the Australian Embassy in Cambodia, through the ACCESS Programme, Australia supports six of Cambodia’s 11 PRCs, located in Siem Reap, Kien Khleang (in Phnom Penh), Prey Veng, Kratie, Takeo, and Kampong Cham.

Recently, H.E. Pablo Kang, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia opened the Siem Reap PRC. The Siem Reap PRC was closed in December 2020 to make room in the provincial hospital grounds for the COVID-19 response. “Australia is proud to have assisted in the reopening of this centre at a new location,” said the embassy.

H.E. Ambassador met with Mr. Pen Chivoine, a beneficiary of the PRC in Siem Reap. Pen was at the PRC receiving prosthetic and orthotic devices, which enabled him to access school and commute independently.

“The Australian Government is proud to have contributed towards such progress. For more than a decade, we have prioritised the development of quality physical rehabilitation services, because access to physical rehabilitation is often a precondition to successful participation in many aspects of life,” underlined the embassy.
