Australia Supporting High-Quality Research to Strengthen Public Policy Making in Cambodia

The Australian government is backing high-quality research to strengthen public policy marking in Cambodia, said the Australian Embassy in Cambodia in a news release this morning.

Through the Asia Foundation, Australia has provided an initial AUD 5.8 million to support the implementation of the Ponlok Chomnes: Data and Dialogue for Development in Cambodia programme, it added.

The programme aims to strengthen the capacity of Cambodian institutions and local researchers to undertake quality research to inform public policy making, the same source pointed out.

The Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) is one of The Asia Foundation’s core partners implementing the programme since 2019 and has significantly contributed to convening many policy dialogues to discuss research findings related to education and COVID-19 impacts.

Recently, H.E. Justin Whyatt, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia met with CDRI researchers to learn about their work, achievements, and the priority research areas supporting sustainable and inclusive development in Cambodia.

“Australia continues to work with Cambodia to support the growth of the independence think tank sector,” said the embassy.
