Film Screenings which are part of the ASEM Cultural Festival, a side-event of the 13th ASEM Summit, kicked off in Phnom Penh this morning with best selected films co-produced between Cambodia and France and European films that were shot in Asia.
The programme is set to run for three days – on Nov. 24, 26, and 28 – at Major Cineplex Aeon1.
The opening of Film Screenings of the ASEM Cultural Festival was held under the presidency of H.E. Hab Touch, Secretary of State, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.
In the face of the Covid-19 pandemic sweeping the entire world, this year’s Festival is taking place online and with several events also being held on-site.
More than 30 events featuring over 100 Asian and European artists will showcase the rich cultural diversity and brilliant creative collaborations between Asia and Europe through theatre, dance, music, and the visual arts.
Four films have been selected for screening that were co-produced between Cambodia and France, as well as European films that were shot in Asia, including The Gate, The Missing Picture, The Last Reel and White Soldier, H.E. Hab Touch said.
“We are proud to present a few examples from Cambodia’s rich film heritage, which stemmed from the post-Khmer Rouge revival such as Rithy Panh, director of Cambodia’s first Academy Award finalist, The Missing Picture, one of the films that have been selected for our programme, up to today’s young film-makers like Neang Kavich, whose White Building starred Chhun Piseth, winner of the 2021 Best Actor at the acclaimed Venice Film Festival, and was screened in the Festival’s curtain raiser events in Brussels last week,” he said.
The five-day ASEM Cultural Festival 2021, from Nov. 22 to 26, 2021, titled ‘Asia and Europe: Cultures Connect’, is an official cultural side-event of ASEM13, organised by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts in partnership with the European Union and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF).
The cultural diversity of Asia and Europe will be celebrated at the ASEM Cultural Festival in multi-disciplinary performances, exhibitions, film screenings and discussions aimed at promoting people-to-people connections, sharing experiences and better understanding of cultural diversity that will bring harmony, development and dialogue between the two continents.
