Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has called for the prevention of possible spread of H5N1 bird flu outbreak in Vietnam to the Kingdom.
The urge was made in the wake of on-going eruption of the disease in in the south of Vietnam.
In a directive issued earlier, the ministry advised its provincial line departments in the areas that share the border with Vietnam to cooperate with competent authorities in order to carefully address illegal imports of birds and bird productions from Vietnam.
Relevant officials are tasked to ensure proper checkup of the health and quality of animals and animal products before granting import certificate to Cambodia, and to coordinate intimately with the Vietnamese side for timely information exchange about H5N1 bird flu.
The directive also ordered the awareness building among Cambodian farmers, particularly those engaging in poultry raising and productions, on necessary sanitation practice to prevent the disease.
According to Vietnam's media, the H5N1 bird flu is spreading in Tra Vinh province in the southern part of the country, and as of early this week, some 55,000 chickens have been culled.
