A Mekong river dolphin has been found dead at Kakot village, Sambok Commune, Chit Borey district, Kratie northeastern province.
According to wildlife conservation organisation World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), the dead dolphin is male, weighs 104 kg, lengths 198 cm, and ages between 15-18 years old.
The joint research team of Fisheries Administration and WWF primarily assessed that the cause of the death is gillnets since there are some gillnet marks on its tail, it added.
The carcass has been collected and stored in a fridge at WWF Office in the province for necropsy purpose, pointed out the same source.
This is the fifth dolphins found dead (2 calves, 3 adults) from January 2019 up to now, and there are totally nine babies were born during the same period.
