Dhaka, Jun 3 (UNB) – Six people, including three motorcyclists, were killed in separate accidents in the city’s Karwan Bazar, Malibagh Chowdhury Para Airport, Khilgaon and Khilkhet areas on Wednesday.
Four of the deceased were identified as Mehedi Hasan alias Noyon, 37, son of Abdul Jalil of 444 Dakkhin Paikpara in Mirpur, Md Mainuddin, 18, Ashiqur Rahman Shanta, 20, and Sultan Khan, 65.
A bus overturned near private television channel ‘ATN News’ at Karwan Bazar around 6:15pm after it was hit by another bus, leaving one passenger dead and 10-15 others injured.
Witnesses said both the busses were heading towards Gulistan from Gabtali.
Sub-Inspector Shamsur Rahman of Tejgaon Police Station confirmed the accident from the spot. The identity of the young man, aged about 25, could not be known immediately.
Of the injured, Ibrahim Noman, 26, Anwar Bepari, Parul, 25, and her son Ashfaque, 3, were rushed to DhakaMedicalCollegeHospital (DMCH).
Earlier at about 3:15 pm, a Tongi-bound bus of ‘Turag Paribahan’ from Jatrabari ran over Sultan Khan when he was crossing the road in front of SouthAsianSchool and College at Malibagh Chowdhury Para, killing him on the spot.
Confirming the accident, SI Tukunuzzaman of Ramna Police Station said the body was handed over to the family members without postmortem as per the permission of the authorities concerned.
Quoting police, hospital sources said a speedy covered van hit the motorbike of Noyon in front of Balaka Bhaban in the Airport area around 4am. He died on the spot.
Sub-inspector Fayaz Uddin of Airport Police Station recovered the body and sent it to DhakaMedicalCollegeHospital for autopsy.
In another incident, a covered van hit a motorcycle on Khilgaon Flyover at about 5am, leaving three motorcyclists — Mainuddin, Shanta and Imran — critically injured.
They were rushed to the DMCH where Shanta was declared dead at about 5:50am while Mainuddin succumbed to his injuries at about 10am.
In the other incident, the unidentified man was hit by a speedy train near Kuril Flyover around 10am, leaving him dead on the spot.
The body was sent to the DMCH for postmortem.
