2nd National Games: Phnom Penh Wins Most of the Medals

Up to May 27, Phnom Penh Municipality ranked first in terms of medals, according to the 2nd National Games Organising Committee.

Phnom Penh won in total 34 medals � 15 gold, 12 silver and 7 bronze � followed by the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Economy and Finance and Ministry of National Defence with 30, 10 and 8 medals, respectively, it underlined.

Sixty-three (63) out of 274 games of 27 sports have so far ended as of yesterday, it pointed out.

The 2nd National Games began since May 25 and will last until June 4 with the participation of 4,163 athletes from the 25 provinces and capital and the three above-said ministries.

The National Games are held every two years to prepare the Cambodian athletes toward the SEA Games 2023 to be hosted by Cambodia.

This regional competition is scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh capital city and in some provinces including Kampot, Kep, Takeo, Siem Reap, Battambang and Kampong Cham from Dec. 1 to 15, 2023. The two-week-long event is expected to attract about 10,000 delegates, of them 7,000 are athletes.

The draft master plan toward hosting the 32nd SEA Games has already been approved by the Cambodian cabinet meeting.

The Kingdom is committed to win at least 30 percent or one third of the total gold medals of 300 at this regional sports event.
