21 Cities in ASEAN Win the 3rd ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard Awards

Twenty-one (21) cities in ASEAN, including three of Cambodia, have won the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard Awards (2022-2024) for their cleanliness, green environment and smart facilities.
The awards conferment ceremony took place at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022 (ATF 2022) hosted by Cambodia in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province on Jan. 19 evening.
Battambang, Sihanoukville and Siem Reap of Cambodia were among the 21 ASEAN regional cities receiving the awards.
Other cities include Tutong of Brunei; Luang Prabang, Pakse and Viengxay of Laos; George Town, Langkawi, and Muar of Malaysia; Mandalay, Nay Pyitaw and Myeik of Myanmar; Khon Kaen, Pataya and Koh Mak of Thailand; and Ha Long, Da Lat, Vung Tau of Vietnam.
According to H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, the award intends not only to strengthen attractiveness and increase the ASEAN tourist cities’ competitiveness, but also to strengthen the quality of tourism products and services in the region in accordance with the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2016-2025.
The competition will promote the better living environment of the residents and the effectiveness of sustainable city development, he underlined.
The selection of the winning cities is based on a set of indicators that evaluate how sustainable the nominated ASEAN cities are, assess the quality of the tourism they offer, and identify areas that can be improved.
