The 14th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting and Related Meetings were officially opened in Siem Reap province, home to the famous ancient temples, this morning.
The event was presided over by Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the National Defence, who represented Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
H.E. Mam Bunheng, Cambodian Minister of Health, briefed the participants on major achievements of the health sector in the country and the progress in partnership between ASEAN and its dialogue partners.
In the spirit of strengthening the potential partnership between ASEAN, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea, WHO, UNICEF, UNAIDS, and IOM, many health programmes have been fruitfully implemented for the benefit of the regional people, he underlined.
The progress has been attained through the implementation of four ASEAN Health Cluster Work Programmes, including Promoting Healthy Lifestyle, Responding to All Hazards and Emerging Threats, Strengthening Health Systems and Access to Care, and Ensuring Food Safety, he pointed out.
Cambodia's minister of health is currently a rotating chair of ASEAN health ministers for two years until 2020.
The 13th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting took place in Brunei Darussalam in September 2017.
