140,000 Domestic Tourists Travel Throughout the Country Last Weekend

Some 139,864 domestic tourists were recorded last weekend, from Oct. 23 to 24, Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon pointed out this afternoon.

The figure represents an increase by 1.27 percent compared to the previous weekend, underlined H.E. Minister.

Of the 139,864 domestic visitors, 136,498 were national tourists, and 3,366 were foreign tourists, he added, stressing that the most visited tourism destination was Preah Sihanouk province, followed by Phnom Penh capital, and the provinces of Kampot, Kep, Siem Reap, Kampong Speu, Mondulkiri, Pursat, and Kandal.

According to H.E. Thong Khon, coastal destinations, especially Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, and Kep attracted some 42 percent of the total tourists, while Siem Reap showed sign of tourism recovery. Kampong Speu, Mondulkiri, and Pursat remained popular tourist destinations.

All Provincial and Municipal Departments of Tourism have been actively promoting and implementing the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) introduced by the Ministry of Tourism to ensure the operation of the business tourism in the New Normal.
