Eleven Stephjoy Boys’ High School students have been remanded to Tigoni police station over a dormitory fire that left three students dead.
The suspects, who have been committed to the children’s unit, were arraigned in court on Tuesday over the incident last Sunday.
Limuru senior principal magistrate Godfrey Oduor said they did not answer to charges as the police had not completed investigations.
Oduor directed that they be treated as juveniles as they are all under 18 years.
Police constable David Njogu said witnesses had not yet recorded their statements.
He requested the court to allow investigators two more days adding that the boys will be released if it is insufficient.
Ian Kamau 16, and 15-year-old Edwin Mugo died in the fire that left at least eight others with serious burns.
Limuru OCPD Mohammed Bakuli said a third student, Zachary Njoroge, died at Kenyatta National Hospital where he was rushed with severe burns.
Bakuli said those injured are recuperating at Tigoni Subcounty Hospital.
He said investigations were launched into the cause of the fire that gutted down the dormitory that had 60 boys at around 11pm.
Stephjoy Boys’ is a private school with more than 400 students.
Two weeks ago, its sister school, Stephjoy Girls’ High School, was closed indefinitely after students allegedly razed a dormitory using potassium permanganate.
