Vietnam Reaffirms Support for Cambodia’s New Leadership

Cambodia will continue to attain new achievements under the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the new government under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Hun Manet.

H.E. Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), made the comments in a conversation via Videoconference with Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, CPP President and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia this afternoon, according to a CPP’s press release issued after the virtual meeting.

The CPV secretary-general also expressed his full support for the reconstruction and development process of Cambodia, as well as reaffirmed his commitment to maintain and foster the good relations between the two parties, governments and peoples.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked H.E. Nguyen Phu Trong for his congratulations on the CPP’s victory in the July general election and for Vietnam’s strong belief and support for the CPP and the new Royal Government.

Both sides praised the close and fruitful cooperation between the two neighbours and stressed the importance of traditional solidarity and mutual assistance, as well as that of training young people to learn and gain experience, especially on historical facts that will contribute to fostering the strong friendship and solidarity between the two nations.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations and ASEAN, and to continue promoting closer cooperation in the sub-regional framework, particularly the Cambodia-Vietnam-Laos framework and Mekong Sub-Region Cooperation, which will contribute to regional and global peace, stability and prosperity.
