A total of 1,548 cases of road accidents were recorded in the first six months of this year, a decline of 4 percent compared to the same period last year, according to a report of the General Commissariat of National Police released yesterday.
The accidents claimed 756 lives and injured 2,072 others, a year-on-year decrease of 20 percent and 7 percent, respectively, the same source pointed out, stressing that more than half of the accidents occurred at night.
Excessive speeding, disrespect of the priority rights, drink driving, not wearing helmet, overtaking and turning in dangerous situation are among the major causes of road accidents in Cambodia.
Competent authorities once again urged for the public’s attention to the respect of traffic laws.
