Anyone who has driven recently through the three-way intersection of Bushkill Drive, Riverside Drive and North Delaware Drive in Downtown Easton by now is a veteran of that vehicular headache.
On Thursday, it got both worse and better as North Delaware Drive was closed between Bushkill Drive and East Lafayette Street. A three-foot section of sewer pipe needed to be replaced near the pumping station along the stretch of road called the Narrows but better known as Route 611, Easton Public Works Direction David Hopkins said.
The city hopes to have North Delaware Drive open by evening rush hour.

With the road closed, there’s little reason for anyone to drive through the three-way intersection that leads both north of the city and across the bridge, which is being rebuilt and is down to one lane on Riverside Drive. Orange signs dominate the landscape as the roads come together.
As often happens when North Delaware Drive is closed, traffic was detoured over College Hill. The traffic troubles likely moved north, especially the turn from Cattell Street to West Lafayette Street, which eventually leads back to North Delaware Drive, north of the closure.
Bushkill Drive near the car wash remains open to one-way local traffic.
