Media regulator launches investigation into Agoda’s business practices

South Korea’s media regulator said Thursday it has launched an investigation into Agoda’s business practices over allegations the global e-travel platform inflicted damage on its customers.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) suspects Agoda, a Singapore-based online hotel booking platform, of using a reservation and refund system that could arouse confusion in its users.

Last year, 324 requests for damage relief were made in connection to the platform, according to data compiled by the Korea Consumer Agency.

The KCC can impose a financial penalty of up to 1 percent of Agoda’s yearly revenue if it confirms any legal violation.
