Kep has been officially recognised as the 6th Open Defecation Free (ODF) province, after Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, Kandal, Kampong Speu, and Kampong Chhnang.
The official recognition ceremony was held in Kep provincial city this morning under the presidency of H.E. Ouk Rabun, Minister of Rural Development.
This achievement confirms many positive effects for the people’s well-being, especially the tourism sector of Kep province which has been named the Rising Star of the Southwest and has won many national and international awards, said H.E. Dr. Som Piseth, Kep Provincial Governor on the occasion.
Minister of Rural Development H.E. Ouk Rabun spoke highly of the efforts of authorities at all levels, provincial working group (PWG), Kep Provincial Department of Rural Development, development partners, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders in making Kep an ODF province.
As of the first quarter of 2023, a total of 7,059 villages, 545 communes, 46 districts and 6 provinces, including Kep, have obtained the ODF status. At the same time, the Ministry of Rural Development is working to increase the clean water and rural sanitation coverage to 90 percent by the end of this year, up from the current 80 percent.
