KUALA LUMPUR, Zulkarnain Azhar, director of ‘Takluk : Lahad Datu’ that was shown in cinemas from Aug 22, intends to produce a sequel to the film in the future.
He shared that plans for the sequel were still in the early stage and would depend on the response and demand of viewers, adding that he intends to have the same actors reprise their roles in the sequel.
“Takluk : Lahad Datu actually stops at an early stage, you can say that it’s Part One, that’s why viewers might feel that it ends with a cliffhanger, that was our intention as Part One is the inspired story before Op Daulat was launched.
“So Part Two will revolve around Op Daulat, and we expect the film to be a much bigger one,’ he said as a guest on the Ambang 31 @ Bernama programme here tonight.
He was joined on the programme by actors Syafiq Kyle dan Riezman Khuzaimi, who appear in the film that managed to pull in RM10.5 million after the first seven days of showing.
Zulkarnain highlighted several challenges he faced when directing the militar
y-style film, including having to follow guidelines set by the authorities and also his aim of wanting to let the audience see the true story of what transpired.
“Of course in creative work there are some differences in delivering historical information and to provide entertainment as a film.
“We didn’t really set it in 2013, and the language used during the real incident wasn’t 100 per cent Bahasa Malaysia,” he pointed out.
‘Takluk: Lahad Datu’ is inspired by the tragic crisis in 2013 when Sulu terrorists from the Philippines invaded Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
