China Reiterates Support to Cambodian New Government

The Chinese government has reaffirmed its support to the new Royal Government of Cambodia under the leadership of H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet.

Visiting H.E. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, made the reaffirmation while paying a courtesy call on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, outgoing Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.

According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Personal Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, during the meeting, H.E. Wang Yi conveyed greetings from the Chinese top leaders to Samdech Techo Hun Sen and congratulated him and the Cambodian People’s Party for the landslide victory in the July National Election.

He said his visit to Cambodia this time was to re-emphasise that China will continue to support Cambodia, and believed that under the leadership of H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet, the cooperation between Cambodia and China will be further developed and Cambodia will be more prosperous.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked H.E. Wang Yi for the greetings from the Chinese top leaders and for his good comments, and expressed his gratitude to China for its continued support to Cambodia.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister told H.E. Wang Yi that Cambodian people knew before the election that there would be changes, and the 84 percent of votes the CPP gained in the recent election reflected that people welcomed the changes.

H.E. Wang Yi, also Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, is on a two-day official visit in Cambodia since Aug. 12, which coincides with the commemoration of the 65th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations and the Year of Friendship between the two countries.
