Cambodia, Thailand Appreciate Bilateral Cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng and his Thai counterpart H.E. Anupong Paochinda have co-chaired the 6th Meeting of the Governors of Cambodian-Thai Border Provinces.

Speaking at the meeting late last week here in Phnom Penh, Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng stressed that the meeting played a crucial roles to promote friendship, solidarity and cooperation in all sectors between the two countries.

Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng spoke highly of good progress in peace, stability, security, order and development in the border provinces of Cambodia and Thailand � achievements that reflect the hard work of the government of the two neighbours.

However, he added, Cambodia and Thailand still have some border issues such as illegal border crossing, drug trafficking, and other smugglings as well as limited environmental management.

H.E. Anupong Paochinda echoed the impressions by Samdech Sar Kheng, adding that the meeting does not only help boost bilateral cooperation, but also serves as platform to identify solutions to emerging issues.

For the next step, as agreed in the Aug. 23-25 meeting, the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Border Committee (JBC) will get prepared for a road construction between Chhok Roka of Samlot district, Battambang province of Cambodia, and Trat province of Thailand.

In addition to addressing happening smugglings at the border, the two counterparts will also seek the possibility of establishing a border gate between Banteay Meanchey and Sakeo provinces
