Cambodia and the Republic of Korea (ROK) have agreed to upgrade their bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership” to promote closer and more prosperous cooperation.
The agreement was made in the summit meeting between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and H.E. Yoon Suk Yeol, President of ROK, in Seoul this morning, during the former’s official visit to the ROK from May 15 to 18.
H.E. President extended warm welcome to the first official visit to Korea by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet as the Prime Minister, emphasising that it will further strengthen the relations and cooperation between both nations.
In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet thanked the President, Government and people of Korea for their warm hospitality and praised the good and long-lasting relationship between the two countries.
The two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, covering key areas including politics, economy, trade, infrastructure development, national defence and security, and so on.

s a result, they agreed to strengthen and expand the existing good cooperation and upgrade the relationship to a “Strategic Partnership” to promote closer and more prosperous cooperation.
In the areas of economy and trade, the two leaders agreed on efforts to promote better trade and investment through free trade agreements such as the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
At the same time, they agreed to promote better relations between the people of the two countries.
In the field of defence and security, the two leaders expressed satisfaction over the close joint efforts between Cambodia and Korea on joint military training on peacekeeping cooperation through a trilateral partnership between the two countries and UN (UN-ROK-Cambodia) and on cooperation in the fight against terrorism and transnational crimes.
The two leaders also exchanged views on cooperation in the agriculture, labour, infrastructure, digital transformation, culture and arts
sectors.
